We cover Oldham, Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyne, Middleton, Cheetham Hill, Bredbury, Sale, West Didsbury, and Bury — and we’re growing fast. If you’re based in any of these areas and you’re serious about building a rewarding career as a driving instructor, Clear Lane is the school for you.

Why Join Clear Lane Driving Academy?

At Clear Lane, we do things differently. We genuinely invest in our instructors — especially PDIs who are still working through their training. Here’s what makes us different:

  • Guaranteed pupil supply — from day one you’ll have pupils in your diary. No waiting, no chasing. We handle the bookings so you can focus on teaching.
  • Flexible working hours — work around your life. Whether you prefer mornings, evenings, or weekends, we’ll build a schedule that works for you.
  • Competitive weekly rental or profit-share arrangements — straightforward, transparent, and fair. No hidden costs.
  • Locally based — we focus on Greater Manchester so you’ll be teaching near your home, reducing your travel time and fuel costs.
  • Real career growth — join now as a PDI and grow with us. Several of our instructors have gone on to build full-time incomes with a loyal pupil base.
  • Welcoming to female instructors — we actively encourage applications from women. Female driving instructors are in extremely high demand across our areas and we have pupils waiting specifically for female instructors right now.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are particularly keen to recruit PDIs — partly qualified instructors who hold a trainee licence and are working towards their ADI Part 3. PDIs who join a school early tend to build stronger, longer-lasting relationships, and we love being part of that journey.

We are also open to hearing from fully qualified ADIs who are looking for a change — perhaps you want more pupil supply, better support, or simply a fresher start with a growing school that actually cares about its instructors.

We especially welcome applications from female instructors. The demand for female driving instructors across Greater Manchester far outstrips the supply. If you’re a woman who is qualified or training to become a driving instructor, you will have a full diary from virtually day one with us.

Areas We Cover

We are recruiting instructors across the following areas in and around Greater Manchester:

What Does a PDI Licence Mean for You?

A PDI (Partly Qualified Driving Instructor) trainee licence allows you to legally teach paying pupils while you complete your training towards full ADI status. This means you can earn money as you learn — and with Clear Lane, you’ll have the pupils and the support you need to make that work from the very start.

Your PDI licence is issued by the DVSA and is valid for 6 months, renewable up to a maximum of two years. During this time, you are working towards passing your ADI Part 3 test — the in-car practical assessment where a DVSA examiner sits in and evaluates your teaching ability. Clear Lane supports you through this entire process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I join as a PDI before I’ve passed my Part 3?

Yes — in fact, this is the ideal time to join. We actively encourage PDIs to come to us as early as possible. The sooner you’re with us, the more support you get, the faster you progress, and the quicker you build a loyal pupil base.

Do I need my own car?

Ideally yes, especially if you are already on your trainee licence. We can discuss car arrangements on a case-by-case basis — contact us to find out what options are available.

How many hours per week can I expect?

That’s entirely up to you. Many of our instructors work 30–40 hours per week, but we can accommodate part-time instructors too. We build your diary around your availability.

Is there demand for female driving instructors?

Absolutely — more than you might expect. Across Oldham, Rochdale, Ashton, and the surrounding areas, there are many pupils — particularly young women and learners from certain cultural backgrounds — who strongly prefer a female instructor. Female instructors often have a waiting list within months of joining us.
